Hari Prasad            Divine relationship of Great Kriyayogi GURU Paramahamsa Hariharananda with disciple Prof. H.P. Ray and his short life-sketch.

Prof. Ray was born at Palitpur village, Birbhum district in West Bengal, India in the year 1941. As his parents were very religious-minded, so from boyhood he was and still also devoted to Divine Mother Kali. After obtaining Master degree in 1964, he acted as a lecturer, Head of the Dept. of Commerce and also Principal-in-charge of both Morning and Day shifts of Berhampore College, Murshidabad. Within the college period, he had also to serve as a Program officer, National Service Scheme, sponsored by Govt. of India. He was awarded 1st Prize in 1978-79 by Dr. S.K. Mukherjee, Vice-Chancellor, Calcutta University for his selfless service for the benefit of rural community while implementing successfully “Ideal Village Programmes” under Calcutta University through successive social camps with N.S.S. volunteers and local youths.

From early age he received blessings of many spiritual personalities. But in 1982 Prof. Ray came in close contact with Paramahamsa Hariharananda who loved him very much for his honesty and simplicity in personal life and for sincerity and regularity in Kriya-yoga performance. More over in 1985 he spent some days at Prof. Ray’s residence at Berhampore, initiated many and instructed for group meditation here. Later on he sent many spiritual letters and cassettes about Kriya-yoga steps and highly appreciated Prof. Ray’s role in writing as “worthy, truth-seeker, dedicated and true disciple of him specially among the Bengalees.

After retirement from college service in 2001, on call of Gurudev, Prof. Ray went to Kriya yoga institute, Miami, U.S.A and learnt higher Kriyas under his direct guidance during his stay there for more than one month. Even now he remembers the pious touch of Gurudev on his head with divine feeling and thrill and gradually attaining super-conscious stage for a time being on the day of departure from ashram, U.S.A.

Getting inspiration from Gurudev at Berhampore Prof. Ray began to write and completed “Yoga-Gita” on the basic of Yogiraj Lahiri Baba’s Kriya-Yoga concepts working intensibly for about 20 years (already published in two volumes in Bengali from Yogiraj publication of Calcutta in 2005). He also wrote and published two books on Gurudev (1. Mahan Kriya-Yogi Paramahamsa Hariharananda and 2. Biswakhata Kriya-yogi Paramhamsa Hariharanander Smriti O Sannidhyer Divya Mahima). In these two books Prof. Ray expressed his humble feeling and inspiration with sweet memories and experiences received from God-like personality of Gurudev on different occasions and situations. He provided much information about Gurudev which few persons know. Prof. Ray also narrated in beautiful languages with relevant quotations from World-Poet Rabindranath Tagore, some events which prove intuitive power and divine manifestation of Gurudev. In addition to that, he also presented many interesting spiritual stories (talked by Gurudev) and charming description of Indian Asharm life with disciples of various countries of the world on soil of Kriya-Yoga institute, Miami, U.S.A. Besides he did not forget the mention Gurudev’s cream of messages and his life history specially pointing out his past achievements and connections with many realized souls of that time.

Prof. Ray observed in most of the cases even in religious fields “money (Artha) is the root cause of all evils (Anarthat) and power (Samartha) corrupts itself”. So he prayed for supreme knowledge (Paramartha) from his Guru. Accordingly Paramhamsa Hariharananda instructed his beloved disciple Prof. Ray to make “Search and Research” and to proceed spiritually to establish Kriya-Yoga as the essence of all religions and thereby to achieve supreme success in realization of soul.

In a letter on February, 2001 Gurudev wrote to Prof. Ray “My name is Hariharananda, your name is Hara, the same. If I touch your letter, I feel divine joy. Haraprasad is so sweet, so kind, so loving and so divine”. Again in this last letter from Miami, U.S.A. on September, 2002 he also wrote to Prof. Ray “God “is always with you. With short breath if you search Him, then automatically you will get all round qualities and God will grant everything.

Though Prof. Ray preferred to spend time more in meditation instead of giving initiation to others, but remembering Gurudevs final wish in U.S.A. and later on also due to repeated requests and spiritual of direction of his senior most disciple Rajarshi Raghabananda, President, Hariharananda Kriya-Yoga Mission, Sambalpur, Orissa, he has no alternative but to start Kriya-Yoga Dhyan Mandir at his residence Berhampore and as a preceptor begins to guide and initiate only those (specially mentioning them to Pramahamsa Hariharananda as Guru) who after observation develop themselves as sincere and regular devotees and find real interest in philosophy and practice of Kriya-yoga.
